Orthodontic Treatments in Vista

Orthodontic Treatments

There are many orthodontic treatment options to choose from, from
metal braces, ceramic braces, and clear aligners to retainers and palate
expanders. They each have their uses. Orthodontists have the specialized
knowledge to consider all possibilities, based on variables like your
age, possible jaw imbalances, differences in the size of your teeth, and
more. If you would like a special evaluation of your case, call us to
speak to our orthodontists. Otherwise, read on to understand the
treatment options classified into 3 parts.

Part 1: Preventive Orthodontic Treatments

There are two cases in which you may be required to use preventive
orthodontic treatments. First, when your teeth are at risk of shifting,
and second when you are participating in active sports.

Mouthguards

A mouthguard is an orthodontic appliance made of flexible material
that fits snugly over the teeth and can be used to prevent the effects
of teeth grinding. Teeth grinding can cause bite problems.

A mouthguard is also used by athletes of all ages to protect teeth
from trauma.

Part 2: Corrective Orthodontic Treatments

These are treatments used to correct crookedness or crowdedness of
teeth.

Braces

Braces use brackets, wires, and bands to adjust teeth’ positions and
move teeth back into their proper places over a duration of time.

Clear aligners

Clear aligners such as Invisalign are custom-made transparent
aligners worn over teeth to apply controlled pressure that slowly shifts
your teeth back to their desired places.

Part 3: Protective Orthodontic Treatments

These are treatments used to preserve the results achieved by
corrective orthodontic treatments.

Retainers

A retainer is an oral appliance given after treatment completion. It
helps the patient preserve and protect the achieved result. Simply put,
once your teeth have been straightened, the retainer is worn to keep
your teeth steady in their new positions.
