Do I Have to Wear a Retainer if I Get Invisalign? | Vista CA

A common question patients ask in regards to Invisalign is if they will need to wear a retainer as part of treatment.  It is an understandable question since Invisalign aligner treatment is different from metal braces.  At Bracket Wires and Smiles, we strive to help patients understand their treatment and what is best to achieve straightened teeth.

Expect to Wear a Retainer

Basically, if we move or align your teeth expect to wear a retainer. It does not matter what kind of appliance (Invisalign, braces or
expander etc) is used to move your teeth. So, yes even with Invisalign treatment we are recommending our patients to wear their retainers as prescribed. In some cases, it will be for a shorter time and then just at night and in others it will be for a long term, full time and then to just at night. Your mileage will vary depending on what type of bite and crowding problems you started with, it’s as simple as that. So, just because your cousin, friend or Aunt only wore their retainer for 3 months does not mean you will. You and your smile are unique and your treatment will be
different just for you.
